About The Artist

Barry L. Miller was born in Geneseo, Illinois and grew up on the family farm, "Indian Hill", near Sauk Trail State Park, north of Kewanee, Illinois. While going to high school in Annawan, he became increasingly interested in art, history and the sciences. His first subjects were native wildlife that his father and he hunted in the timber, and abandoned strip mines around his home

Later, Barry furthered his education at the university of Illinois receiving his Bachelors in Basic Sciences and also studies art in Champaign. After being accepted to the University of Illinois Doctorates of Medical Illustration in Chicago as well as the University of Illinois School of Medicine, Barry decided to become a physician. Though he set aside art during his medical education, he was asked to help create a new anatomy curriculum for the College of Medicine, which is still in use in Champaign today.

Barry graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, married his wife Connie and started residency at Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois and is an associate professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. Not much into playing golf, Dr. Miller spends his leisure time researching and painting historic Americans and being with his family.
